　　Searching for objects in physical space has been one of the most important tasks for mobile robots. Transient targets refer to intermittent signal emitting objects such as cellphone users, airplane black boxes, and unknown sensor networks. Searching for such targets is difficult because targets are found only if both signal emission and sensing range conditions are simultaneously satisfied. This problem is inherently stochastic which makes the traditional coverage-based searching techniques less effective. Considering a large searching region, sparse target distribution, the expected searching time, multi-target signal correspondence, variable signal transmission power, and the efficient coordination of multiple robots, we report a series of algorithms developed over last decade that handle the cases from single-target-single-robot to decentralized multi-target-multi-robot with different sensing and communication constraints and explicit performance analyses. Extensive simulation and physical experiment results are also included in the talk.

　　報(bào)告人簡(jiǎn)介：  宋德臻博士目前是德州A&M大學(xué)計(jì)算機(jī)系的終生教授。宋德臻于2004年在加州大學(xué)伯克利分校的運(yùn)籌學(xué)系獲得博士學(xué)位，主攻機(jī)器人方向。他的碩士學(xué)位是工業(yè)自動(dòng)化，學(xué)士學(xué)位是過程控制, 都是畢業(yè)于浙江大學(xué)。宋博士的研究方向是機(jī)器人感知技術(shù)，網(wǎng)絡(luò)機(jī)器人，計(jì)算視覺，以及概率模型。宋博士是國際電機(jī)電氣工程師聯(lián)合會(huì)（IEEE）的機(jī)器人與自動(dòng)化分會(huì)（RAS）下網(wǎng)絡(luò)機(jī)器人技術(shù)委員會(huì)的創(chuàng)始人和副主席（2007-2009）。宋博士發(fā)表了一本專著，九個(gè)章節(jié)，八十多篇期刊和會(huì)議論文。他曾獲得國際機(jī)器人和自動(dòng)化大會(huì)（ICRA） 的最佳自動(dòng)化論文獎(jiǎng)（和J. Yi， S. Ding一起）。宋博士在2007年獲得美國國家自然科學(xué)基金會(huì)的青年科學(xué)家(CAREER)獎(jiǎng)。宋博士曾擔(dān)任多個(gè)機(jī)器人權(quán)威期刊的副編輯，包括IEEE Transactions on Robotics, (2008-2012), IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering (2010-2014)， 和IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (2015-)。宋博士還是國際最權(quán)威最暢銷的機(jī)器人學(xué)手冊(cè)（Springer Handbook of Robotics）的章節(jié)作者和多媒體編輯。
